Connections Enewsletter – July 2026

Stories of Hope. Moments of Impact. Ways to Get Involved.

Welcome Back!

Welcome to the return of the newsletter with a little bit of a new look! You may notice we’re going by VOA Michigan now, a shorter, friendlier way of saying Volunteers of America Michigan (don’t worry, we’re still the same team doing the same work).

Each month, we’ll bring you stories from across our programs: moments of kindness, community partnerships, volunteer opportunities, and ways you can help create brighter futures for veterans, seniors, families, and neighbors across Michigan.

Fresh Food Comes Home to Sumby Senior Living

Many seniors face barriers that make something as simple as grocery shopping difficult.

Thanks to our friends at Metro Food Rescue, residents at Sumby Senior Living now have access to fresh fruits and vegetables right where they live twice a month.

Fresh food. Fewer barriers. Stronger communities.

Spring Fling Brings Joy to Delta River Residents

Door raffles. Perry Como. Motown. Dancing. Food. Smiles everywhere.

The Delta River team created more than an event; they created moments of connection and belonging.

Thank you to Lisa and the Delta River team for going above and beyond to make our communities feel like home

A Cup of Tea. A Moment of Connection.

Our Partridge Creek team members Lorna and Arlisha hosted a Mother’s Day Tea to remind residents they are loved and appreciated.

One resident shared:
“Thank you for such a lovely Mother’s Day tea… VOA Partridge Creek… simply the best.”

Small moments create lasting impact.

Foxboro Senior Living Supports Local Veterans

Residents from the Foxboro Senior Living came together to collect food and give back to veterans in need.

A powerful reminder that everyone can make a difference.

Veterans BBQ Celebration

Food. Fellowship. Community. And Dancing.

Our Veterans BBQ brought people together to celebrate, connect, and honor those who have served.

A Conversation from Mackinac: Helping People Tell Their Story

When systems don’t communicate, the people seeking help carry the burden.

Housing asks their story.
Healthcare asks again.
Case management asks again.

As VOA Michigan President and CEO, Aubrey Macfarlane, shared at Mackinac:
“It creates a space where people have to repeat their story over and over again, which can be retraumatizing.”

VOA Michigan is working toward a future where systems work together. In turn, people receive the support they need with dignity.
