Connections Enewsletter – September 2026

Stories of Hope. Moments of Impact. Ways to Get Involved.

Because of You, Hope Continues

As summer comes to a close and children head back to school, we’re taking a moment to reflect on the incredible kindness we’ve witnessed over the past few months.

Whether you packed a backpack, shopped at one of our thrift stores, donated funds, or simply shared our mission with a friend, thank you. You are changing lives, and we’re so grateful to have you as part of the VOA Michigan family (That’s us below!)

Families connecting, kids running with their new backpacks, the tangible hope of a brighter school year. And seeing our mission recognized on national news reminded us exactly why we do this work.

We’re still collecting. School districts across Detroit need backpacks and supplies. You can donate items, make a gift, share this video with your network, or organize a workplace drive.

A Place to Call Home

For more than 130 years, Volunteers of America Michigan has been helping seniors, veterans, individuals, families, and people with disabilities find not only affordable housing, but community.

Each of our housing communities is designed to help residents live independently while building meaningful connections through resident activities, welcoming shared spaces, beautiful outdoor courtyards, and caring staff who truly know their residents.

Neighbors Helping Neighbors

One of the most beautiful things about our work is seeing community come together.

This month, our Detroit Veterans Housing Program partnered with Forgotten Harvest to provide fresh, nutritious food to veterans and neighbors in need.

Food does more than fill a pantry. It eases worry, brings comfort, and reminds people they aren’t facing life’s challenges alone.

We’re incredibly grateful for partnerships that make moments like these possible.

Have you joined one of our live thrift sales yet?

Our MI Thrift team is having so much fun connecting with shoppers through Whatnot, bringing incredible finds directly into homes across Michigan.

Bids start as low as $1, but the impact goes far beyond the purchase.

Every item sold helps support programs for veterans, seniors, and families throughout Michigan.
