Operation Backpack: YOU DID THAT!
Okay, community… WOW.
Operation Backpack was a true team effort, and we are still feeling the love from this year’s campaign!
From generous sponsors and supply drives to volunteers who packed, organized, sorted, loaded, unloaded, and encountered more backpacks in those couple of hours than over the course of their lives… YOU SHOWED UP. 😂🎒
Because of our incredible community partners, donors, volunteers, and supporters, we were able to help provide 3,000+ students with the supplies they needed to head back to school feeling prepared and confident.
A HUGE thank you to everyone who:
💙 Hosted a drive
💙 Donated supplies
💙 Sponsored the campaign
💙 Volunteered
💙 Helped spread the word
💙 Cheered us on from the sidelines
It takes a village to pull off a campaign like Operation Backpack, and our village came through.
We couldn’t have done it without you!
September Volunteer Spotlight

September brought another wonderful opportunity for our community to give back.
Volunteers gathered at the AAA building to assemble hygiene kits for veterans served by VOA Michigan.
It might sound simple, but these kits provide practical essentials while sending an even more important message:
You are seen. You are appreciated. You matter.
Our volunteers brought the energy, teamwork, and probably a little too much enthusiasm for organizing supplies. 😉
Thank you to everyone who donated supplies, volunteered their time, and helped make these kits possible!

Ways To Give

It’s Cartober! Turn Your Vehicle Into Impact
Your old car could help drive our mission forward!
October isn’t just about pumpkins and spooky season. It’s also Cartober, the perfect time to turn an unwanted vehicle into something meaningful.
Last October, VOA Michigan received approximately $18,000 in vehicle donations! That’s a pretty incredible reminder that something sitting unused in a driveway can help make a real difference in our community.
Have an old car, truck, van, or another eligible vehicle you’re ready to part with? Your donation can help support VOA Michigan’s mission to serve veterans, families, seniors, and individuals throughout Michigan.
And don’t worry if your vehicle has seen better days. It doesn’t have to win a beauty contest to make an impact. 😉
Ready to turn your vehicle into a force for good?

The Booth Community: Help Build Something That Lasts
VOA Michigan is working toward something extraordinary: restoring a historic Detroit building and transforming it into The Booth Community, a new housing community designed to provide a safe, stable home for 61 individuals, veterans, and seniors.
Opening in spring 2027, The Booth Community represents more than a building. It’s an opportunity to help address homelessness, restore hope, and create a place where people can rebuild their lives with dignity.
And here’s the exciting part: you can be part of its story!
Through special naming opportunities, individuals, families, and businesses can leave a lasting mark on this transformative project. Imagine seeing your family name, your company’s name, or the name of someone you love permanently recognized in a community that will make a difference for years to come.
This is a chance to be part of something bigger than yourself: preserving a piece of Detroit’s history while helping create a future where more people have a place to call home.
Whether you’re interested in a naming opportunity or know someone who might be, we’d love to connect!
💙 Help us build something that lasts.

Adopt a Family Is OPEN!
Cue the holiday music… 🎶
We know it may feel a little early to start talking about the holidays, but somehow December is always here before we’re ready for it.
That’s why VOA Michigan’s Adopt a Family program is officially OPEN!
Individuals, families, businesses, churches, community groups, and organizations can help make the holiday season a little brighter for families in our community.
You can help by:
🎁 Adopting a family
🎁 Being a campaign Sponsor
🎁 Rallying your coworkers or community group
🎁 Sharing the opportunity with someone who would love to participate
Whether you go big or keep it simple, every act of generosity matters.
And let’s be honest… shopping for someone else is a lot more fun when you know you’re helping make someone’s holiday a little brighter. ❤️
One thing we know for sure:
community makes the work we do possible.

Whether you’re volunteering for two hours, donating a box of supplies, shopping at VOA Michigan Thrift, sponsoring a program, or adopting a family for the holidays, your support creates real impact.
So, this October, we hope you’ll join us.
Come thrift.
Come volunteer.
Come get a little spooky. 👻
Come make a difference.
Just don’t forget the candy. 🍬
Thank you for being part of the VOA Michigan community.
We are so grateful to have you in our corner. 💙
