A long-vacant Detroit school is set to be transformed into permanent supportive housing for chronically homeless residents thanks to a $31 million redevelopment project led by Volunteers of America Michigan. The initiative will convert the former St. Mary of Redford school building into 61 apartments — including studios, one-bedroom, and two-bedroom units — primarily targeting chronically homeless individuals, with on-site wraparound services including medical, dental, and mental health support.
