Pamela’s Story

YOU GAVE PAMELA A SAFE PLACE TO LAND

Pamela Senior Resident Delta River Senior Village Volunteers of America Michigan

Pamela always tried to see the bright side of things. She had a career and raised four beautiful daughters. She was living in New York, working for a pharmaceutical company when her employer sold the business and moved operations to Europe. Pamela then made the decision to move back home to Michigan to be closer to her mother.

Once she was back in Michigan and settled, she fell in love, and got married. However, it didn’t take long before she found herself in a reality she never thought was possible. Pamela became one of every three women that fall victim to domestic violence.

After 25 years, at the age of 68, Pamela found the courage to get out. She left everything behind and never looked back. She was able to stay with her daughters for a while, but she needed her own safe space to heal from her trauma.

That’s when Pamela discovered Delta River Senior Village. In her search for safety, she found so much more. She found a community that would become extended family.

Now, a few years later, Pamela is finally able to breathe a sigh of relief. The new life she has built is full of love, laughter, and following her dreams. Watching Pamela step out in faith, her younger sister who was also in an abusive relationship, was inspired to do the same.

Pamela brings joy and encourages all she meets. Even throughout the coronavirus pandemic, she wanted to help others and lift their spirits in any way she could. So, she bought some supplies and taught herself how to paint. Every month, Pamela paints a new masterpiece and displays it in the hall for her neighbors to enjoy.

YOU gave her a safe place to land and heal.
Because of you, Pamela is thriving and able to inspire others to do the same.
