Connections Enewsletter – June 2025

This year, the need is greater than ever. We are still short more than 600 essential school supplies and several hundred backpacks to meet the requests from families across our state. For many of the children we serve, this backpack is more than a bag of supplies- it is a symbol of care, stability, and the chance to walk into the classroom feeling confident and prepared.

If you have already contributed, thank you. If you are able to help further, we invite you to give what you can today. Every notebook, every pencil, every gift brings us closer to ensuring no child is unprepared.

Next week, we are launching Voices of Volunteers of America Michigan presented by the Bob Woodruff Foundation, as a chance for you to engage directly with the people on the front lines of our mission. This is your opportunity to submit questions, hear real stories from our team, and understand how your support is being used in the most meaningful ways.

Earlier this month, an incredible team of volunteers from local Home Depot stores came together to serve those who served us. Their work at our Detroit Veterans Housing Program included extensive landscaping, interior painting, and replacing worn out furniture making it a more welcoming and comforting space.

These upgrades are about more than just aesthetics. They restore a sense of pride and dignity to veterans working to rebuild their lives. We are grateful for Home Depot’s continued commitment to honoring those who have sacrificed so much.

Thanks to Honest Health, seniors at Coventry Place, Delta River, and Oak Village enjoyed a special Paint and Sip event filled with creativity, laughter, and care. Volunteers brought donated art supplies, snacks, and sparkling cider, creating a joyful and engaging atmosphere for everyone involved.

Activities like these are more than just fun. They help our seniors stay socially connected, emotionally engaged, and feel valued as individuals. Honest Health also took time to support our Detroit Veterans Housing Program by helping organize the pantry, showing their commitment to uplifting the entire community.

In our previous newsletter, we were excited to announce that a brand-new Volunteers of America Michigan thrift store is coming to Marshall later this year!
