Maggie Kramer

Service Coordinator

“I am so thankful for a position that doesn’t feel like “work”. While everyone I know is complaining on Sunday that they don’t want to go to work…. I am absolutely fine with Monday because I get to check on my residents and see what happened over the weekend. It is like having 173 grandparents.”

Maggie Kramer, Service Coordinator

What is your name? Maggie Kramer

Do you have a nickname? Maggie is my nickname, but that is the only name I use lol

What is your position with VOAMI? Service Coordinator at Coventry Place and Heritage Park

What brought you to VOAMI? I actually had no idea what VOA was right up until the interview. Denise was interviewing me and asked me what made me apply to VOA, my response was, “I have no idea what that is, but I hope this is for the position with seniors in Redford”.

How long have you worked with VOAMI? 14 years

What is your biggest takeaway from your job? Never stop moving and doing some sort of daily excerise.

What does it mean to you to be helping others? It is very rewarding to see/hear how just being there for people makes their life better. My favorite part of my job is my senior residents. I am so thankful for a position that doesn’t feel like “work”. While everyone I know is complaining on Sunday that they don’t want to go to work…. I am absolutely fine with Monday because I get to check on my residents and see what happened over the weekend. It is like having 173 grandparents.

What is your biggest challenge? The grief and loss associated with the passing of residents

What is the best piece of advice you’ve been given? Hold on to a few extra pounds when you are a senior so your body has more to fight with if God forbid you get ill.

What is your favorite color? Blue

Where is your ideal vacation spot? Islamorada

What is your favorite book? My first thought was something by Chuck Palahniuk, but they are a lot ha-ha. I don’t read too much anymore, but I also love a good romance.

What fills your time outside of work? I spend my time with my partner Joe, my daughters Jaime and Jessica, my adorable grandson Levi, and my two canine babies Walle and Dexter. My favorite time of year is summer so we all can hang out on our boat.

Who is your hero? Why? My mom. She was the kindest soul who would do anything for anyone, even a complete stranger. She didn’t have much, but everything she had she would share with whoever needed it. She taught me all the money in the world means nothing if you are miserable and alone and that family (whether it is by blood or choice) means everything.
