130 Years of Showing Up.
Now It’s Your Turn.
On March 8, 2026, we celebrate 130 years of standing with Michigan’s veterans, families, and neighbors. We’re marking this milestone by asking 130 people to help us build the next 130 years.
Two Ways to Make History
Pick one. Pick both. But be part of the 130.
So much feels overwhelming right now. But here’s what you CAN control: your impact on Michigan families through monthly giving or by joining our sustainable shopping community. Your tax-deductible donation that stays local. Your follow that spreads awareness. For 130 years, Volunteers of America Michigan has been the place where your action creates real, visible change—whether through financial support or community engagement.
Become One of 130 Monthly Donors
Your monthly donation (as little as $13 and tax-deductible) funds affordable housing for families, meals for veterans, and veteran services, senior housing, and family support programs that change lives across 18 counties.
What Your Monthly Gift Does:
- $13/month: Supports housing stability for families in need
- $50/month: Funds backpacks and school supplies for students
- $130/month: Makes independent living possible for a veteran (food prep, transportation, essentials)
Your recurring donation is 100% tax-deductible and can be canceled anytime.
Can’t commit to monthly? Make a one-time gift or explore other ways to help.

A Legacy Built Together
For 130 years, Volunteers of America Michigan has stood with our communities through every major challenge. From the 1918 Flu Pandemic, the Great Depression, and the 2008 financial crisis to the recent Coronavirus pandemic, we have remained a trusted source of help and hope. Since World War I, we have supported our nation’s heroes and the many neighbors who rely on us. Through these moments, our work has helped communities stay strong and recover with dignity.
What began with Ballington and Maud Booth’s vision has grown into a statewide organization dedicated to compassionate service. Today, that vision continues through programs that offer stability, opportunity, and the tools people need to rebuild their lives across Michigan.
“Our work is not all bread and shelter. The underprivileged, the weak, and the unfortunate need more. They need sympathy, the warmth of fellowship, and the instilling of courage.”
– Ballington Booth, Co-Found of Volunteers of America
Why 130 Matters
We’ve evolved from collecting salvage materials for troops to providing permanent housing for veterans. From delivering Christmas baskets to homebound seniors to running seven thrift stores that fund it all.
But here’s the truth: when everything else feels out of control, THIS still works.
Every meal served. Every veteran housed. Every child who starts school with a full backpack. Every family who doesn’t go without during the holidays. That’s not us. That’s YOU. Your monthly donations and your thrift community engagement. Your support in whatever form you can give. Your belief that Michigan takes care of its own.
So we’re asking for two things as we celebrate 130 years: 130 monthly donors to provide sustainable funding, and 13,000 thrift followers to build community and spread awareness. Not because it’s a milestone (though it is). But because the next 130 years depend on what we build together right now.

March 8, 2026 marks 130 years of service. We’re asking 130 people to become monthly donors and 13,000 to join our thrift community. Pick one. Pick both. But be part of building what comes next.
