Sparrow Medical Group-Volunteers of America

Sparrow Medical Group-Volunteers of America operates as a primary care facility to those who are underserved and in need of medical care. It opened in 2014 at the Volunteers of America Michigan homeless service center in Lansing to provide a medical home for the homeless, reduce the reliance on the Emergency Room and provide medical care to those who lack access.

Patients are served regardless if they have insurance. If they do not have insurance, referrals are made to sign up.

Sparrow Medical Group provides follow-up care, wound treatment, basic health care as well as lab and blood work. The doctors manage basic prescriptions for patients and Sparrow covers a certain portion of prescription costs if patients are unable to pay.

Patients need a Service Point Card, which they can get at the New Hope Day Center front desk at Volunteers of America Michigan. Appointments are made on a same-day basis, with patients signing up at 8 a.m. or 1 p.m. in the Sparrow lobby. The medical practice is open weekdays, 8 a.m. to noon and 1-5 p.m.
