Patrick Patterson named new president and CEO
Volunteers of America Michigan announced today that long-time executive Patrick Patterson has been named as the human service provider's new president and CEO, effective July 1, 2017. He assumes leadership duties from Alex Brodrick, who will retire after more than 20 years as Michigan CEO and almost 35 years with Volunteers of America.
Patterson began his tenure at Volunteers of America Michigan in 1998 as a member of its Lansing committee and board of directors. He was hired as a full-time employee in 2000, and most recently served as executive vice president, overseeing the organization's fundraising, public relations, construction and maintenance activities. Previously, Patterson served as vice president of operations, directing social service, construction, building maintenance and community engagement. Before his tenure with Volunteers of America Michigan, Patterson worked for the City of Lansing from 1995 to 2000.
"I hope to inspire the community, donors, volunteers and staff to join and flourish in the unique and redeeming mission of Volunteers of America, to apply my 23 years of executive experience to guide the response to socioeconomic conditions, optimize our services and maintain our core mission," Patterson said.
A leader in the Michigan human services sector, Patterson serves on the Governor's Interagency Council on Homelessness. He earned a bachelor's degree in political science and a Master of Science degree in environmental law and policy from Michigan State University, as well as a Master of Nonprofit Administration from the University of Notre Dame's Mendoza School of Business.
