Your name: Christie Wick-Trombley
Your role at Volunteers of America Michigan: Shift Manager for our Thrift Store in Burton, Michigan.
What brought you to this position? I had shopped at the Burton store for a few years before applying for a job there. I loved the store, but didn’t really know anything about VOAMI’s Mission. At that time I was teaching, and as my love for teaching was still intact, my patience was not. So I started seeking out a different line of employment. As I was searching Indeed, I came across a post for the Burton store. I thought to myself, I love the store, I wonder what their mission actually is. So I did some research and was very pleased with what I found. I didn’t hear anything back, so I applied again. Soon after, I received a call from Misty and went in for an interview. Misty seemed like an amazing manager and I happily accepted the position. I am very happy that I did. I love my job, the crew I work with, the organization and everything VOAMI stands for. I am currently training with Misty and learning everything she knows with hope’s that some day I can move up with the organization.
What is your biggest takeaway from working with Volunteers of America Michigan? My job helps every day people and those who serve our country. I love coming to work every day.
What is your biggest challenge in this position? Learning everything there is to know about thrift.
Where is your dream vacation spot? Anywhere there is warm weather, sunshine, white sand, and blue oceans.
What is your favorite book? I like to read a lot of different books, Stephen King is my ultimate favorite. I can’t choose just one book that I love. “Where The Red Fern Grows” by Wilson Rawls has been a favorite of mine since middle school.
How do you spend your time outside of the office? Family, friends, and my dogs Ace and Luna.
