- What happened to Adopt A Family?
Adopt A Family has been reimagined into Heart of the Holidays, a new program that will provide holiday assistance to families in need across the lower peninsula. - What is Heart of the Holidays?
Heart of the Holidays is Volunteers of America Michigan’s holiday assistance program that supports children by providing toys, clothing and something else equally essential: hope! - Who qualifies for the new Heart of the Holidays program?
Families who are currently enrolled in programs with our partnering organizations will be considered for Heart of the Holidays, as well as seniors and veterans currently enrolled in Volunteers of America Michigan’s programs and services. - Will general applications be accepted for Heart of the Holidays?
Families with children who are currently not enrolled in our partnering organizations programs can apply for Heart of the Holidays. A very limited number of applications will be accepted beginning September 15, 2023. To qualify, you must demonstrate need by providing proof of income with your MI Bridges Notice of Case Action or Award Letter and live within 20 miles of Southfield, Michigan. - What ages qualify for Heart of the Holidays?
Families with children from birth to high school seniors will be considered for Heart of the Holidays. - Why did Adopt a Family change?
VOAMI reimagined its Adopt a Family program to better meet the great need in the community through partnerships. By collaborating with social service agencies in Detroit, Flint, Grand Rapids and Lansing, VOAMI can more efficiently reach more families in need than ever before. - Will there be a limited number of Heart of the Holiday sponsors?
No, we will need approximately 1,500 individuals/families to help provide smiles and joy to children in need this holiday season. - Will veterans and seniors be affected by this change?
Volunteers of America Michigan will still provide holiday assistance to veterans and seniors currently enrolled in our programs. - What will the services look like for Heart of the Holidays?
Just like Adopt a Family, Heart of the Holidays will provide holiday assistance to families with children in need. The program will accept a limited number of applications but will provide holiday assistance to families enrolled in partnering organizations’ programs. Children will receive holiday gifts and clothing – delivered by our partners. Sponsors will no longer be required to deliver gifts to the families directly. - What if I don’t want to sponsor a child, but provide support to those in need?
