Volunteers of America Michigan is the single largest contract provider of veterans services in the Lansing region with three programs for homeless veterans: the Veterans Dormitory Program (VDP), the Veterans Housing Program (VHP), and the Homeless Veterans Reintegration Program (HVRP). With nearly one in three homeless men an armed services veteran, the programs provide sorely needed, life-changing opportunities for homeless veterans. Eighty three percent of the veterans that complete the programs return to independent living.

Volunteers of America Michigan's Veterans Community Housing and Community Services are now CARF Accredited!  CARF (Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities) is an independent, nonprofit accreditor of human service providers. It bases its accreditation on established standards of quality for organizations to use as guidelines in developing and offering their programs or services to consumers. CARF uses standards to determine how well an organization is serving its consumers and how it can improve. Regarded as the standard of professional excellence, being a Three-Year, CARF-Accredited Agency, Volunteers of America Michigan is set apart as a service provider that demonstrates a commitment to continued enhancement in quality services and programs, and a focus on consumer satisfaction.

The Veterans Dormitory Program (VDP) is a 6-month program that is open to both male and female veterans. This program offers all of the services of New Hope plus the assistance of the Veteran’s Case Manager and the physical and mental health services of the VA Medical Hospitals.  Phone: 517-489-5290.

The Veterans Housing Program (VHP) is an 18-month program that offers housing and complete clinical services including case management; individual and group counseling; substance abuse treatment; medical care; budgeting assistance; job interviewing and placement; anger management; and recreational opportunities in a therapeutic community setting for 40 homeless veterans. A Veterans Housing Program is now open in Niles, Michigan for 18 veterans.  Phone: 517-489-5285.

The Homeless Veterans Reintegration Program (HVRP) is a comprehensive employment and training program with wrap-around supportive services designed to address employment barriers by establishing a coordinated case management system with a strong aftercare component. A continuum of supportive services will be provided and coordinated, giving homeless veterans the ability to participate in job skills training programs while meeting their basic needs. Current locations include Lansing, Detroit and Flint.  Phone:  517-489-5283.

Capital Area Stand Down for Homeless Veterans is a program that occurs in the spring in downtown Lansing. Multiple service providers gather together in one outdoor location to provide veterans services, hair cuts, health screenings, legal services, social security advice, vision testing, job assistance, clothing, food and supplies to those in need. See flyer for more info on the 2012 Capital Area Stand Down for Homeless Veterans.
