All relationships are difficult, but for domestic abuse victim Jamie, hers was more then that. Suffering for too long in a mental and physically abusive relationship, Jamie, in her thirties finally had enough.

Jamie arrived at Volunteers of America Michigan with no job, money or place to go. She was instantly taken in to the Women's Emergency Shelter. Jamie soon began meeting with Abby, her Case Manager. Not only did Abby listen, but she shocked Jamie as to how highly someone could think of her.

Throughout each week Jamie and Abby would meet to discuss Jamie’s life. With Abby’s help, Jamie realized what potential and strength she had.  After two months of staying in the women’s shelter and getting involved with different services available in the New Hope Day Center, Jamie was able to find permanent housing in a safe and stable environment.  Jamie was also able to find full time employment where she still works today.

The biggest improvement in Jamie’s life is that, she has been able to establish trustful, meaningful relationships. “I am very moved by the staff at VOAMI and how they’ve been so caring and accommodating in my time of need,” said Jamie.

Jamie continues to work full time, live independently, have active participation with her church, and surround herself with positive people.
