Overnight Emergency Shelters
Volunteers of America Michigan is rebuilding lives, one person at a time throughout the Greater Lansing area. This is made possible with the help of volunteers, community leaders, partnerships with other organizations and foundation and corporate support.
In Lansing, Volunteers of America Michigan operates a 50-bed overnight emergency shelter for men and a 14-bed overnight emergency shelter for women and children.

We understand that homelessness can affect anyone. Alls it takes is a serious turn of events in one's life; the passing of a loved one, divorce and workplace downsizing. Many of us have recovered from life's ups and downs through the grace of God, but for every one person that overcomes major problems, there are thousands more who are forced to live on the streets.
The shelters provide a safe place to stay and access to important services. People may come to the shelter for a multitude of reasons; escaping abusive homes, lack of income, unemployment, death in the family, substance abuse or illness.
All residents of our overnight shelter can also receive services from New Hope Day Center. The center collaborates with eight other agencies to provide a variety of services including employment assistance, substance abuse education, and health care.
Volunteers of America also provides free, nutritious meals to the hungry and homeless. Individuals and families can receive three meals daily on weekdays, and two meals daily on weekends.
The shelter is open 365 nights per year. Both shelters are filled to capacity nearly every night.
