Volunteers of America Michigan Opens Affordable Housing for Low-Income Physically Disabled persons in Detroit, Michigan.
Volunteers of America Michigan has completed construction and opened a new 10-unit apartment building in Detroit.
Oak Village Independence House.
The new provides one-bedroom apartments to low-income physically disabled persons in Detroit, Michigan who would otherwise have very few choices for safe, quality affordable housing. A ribbon-cutting ceremony to celebrate the opening of the building will be held on Wednesday, August 17 at 11:00am.

Volunteers of America Michigan Broke Ground on New Transitional Housing for Homeless Veterans in Detroit on Thursday
Volunteers of America Michigan broke ground on a new transitional housing program for homeless veterans on Thursday, May 12th. The
Detroit Veterans Housing Program
addresses the specific needs of 60 homeless vets, providing 24-months of transitional housing, case management and employment training and placement.

The Home Depot Foundation Pledges $30 Million to Veterans Housing Issues
Volunteers of America, one of the largest nonprofit providers of affordable housing and services to veterans in the U.S., has partnered with The Home Depot Foundation to provide quality homes to veterans and their families nationwide. Here in Michigan, The Home Depot Foundation has committed $150,000 this year to help renovate Volunteers of America’s 60-unit Veteran’s Housing Program in Detroit.

Employment Services for Homeless Female Veterans
Volunteers of America Michigan is pleased to announce a grant award from the U.S. Department of Labor’s
Homeless Veterans Reintegration Program (HVRP)
. The Homeless Female Veterans and Homeless Veterans with Families Grant is designed to address employment barriers faced by female veterans by establishing a coordinated case management system. Transportation, child care, and other employment related assistance is available through the program.

Volunteers of America Michigan has broken ground on the new 66-unit
Partridge Creek Village Community.
The new facility provides homes to low-income seniors in Macomb County who might otherwise be forced to leave their community to find housing that fits their needs.

Veterans services expand to Niles, Flint and Detroit.
On July 1, 2010, Volunteers of America Michigan took over an existing homeless veterans program in Niles, Michigan. This 18-bed program replicates the Veterans Housing Program in Lansing; offering complete clinical services including health care, housing, and recreational opportunities in a therapeutic community setting. The program is already full.
Country View Apartments & Townhomes "Residents' Day"
On Saturday, August 21, 2010, residents of Country View participated in its first annual “Residents' Day”.

On November 5, 2010, Phillip Katzmann began his 73-mile
Walk for Shelter
from Southfield to Lansing. His walk is part of a campaign to raise an additional $3,000 for
homeless services
that will be in increasingly greater demand over the coming winter months.
