New Hope Day Center — Lansing (517) 484-4414
This weekday service center provides a safe haven where individuals can utilize a variety of services. In addition to providing the use of telephone and restroom facilities, New Hope is a gateway to educational services, employment preparation, life skills courses, health care services and case management.
Women’s and Children’s Overnight Emergency Shelter — Lansing (517) 484-4414
Open 365 days a year, this 16-bed shelter offers women and children a warm, safe place to sleep. Our case management team understands the unique obstacles that women and children face and offers expertise in securing the necessary resources.
Men’s Overnight Emergency Shelter — Lansing (517) 484-4414
Open 365 days a year, this 50-bed shelter offers men a warm, safe place to sleep. This shelter is filled to capacity nearly every night.
Community Kitchen — Lansing (517) 484-4414
Free, nutritious meals are served to the hungry and homeless. Breakfast, lunch and dinner are served Monday through Friday. Breakfast and dinner are available on weekends.
Veterans Services
Veterans Dormitory Program (VDP) — Lansing (517) 484-4414, Extension 113
This is a 16-Bed program that is available to male and female veterans. Residents can stay for up to 6 months if they maintain weekly progress on their Treatment Plan. The program is free of charge for residents.
Veterans Housing Program (VHP) — Lansing (517) 484-4414
Serving homeless male veterans, this program provides longer-term transitional housing for veterans including those with substance related disorders and/or mental illness.

At each of our affordable housing facilities, Residents pay just 30% of their adjusted income for rent.
Coventry Place Apartments — Redford (313) 531-5335
This residence is comprised of 58 units for low-income seniors and disabled individuals, and is situated in a quiet neighborhood.
Oak Village Square Apartments — Detroit (313) 934-0010
This 75-unit apartment facility for low-income seniors, age 62 and older is a gem. Residents enjoy many social activities as well as a wide variety of supportive services.
McDonald Senior Apartments — Pontiac (248) 292-2095
This 50-unit property for low-income seniorsAmenities include community and game rooms, a library, hair salon and much, much more. overlooks Harris Lake.
Sumby Senior Housing — River Rouge (313) 357-2891
Constructed in 2006, this inviting 55 unit community for low-income seniors age 62 and older, is situated in a residential neighborhood near senior centers, libraries, transportation and diverse places of worship. Sumby is named after the historic Sumby Hospital which was formerly located on this site and continues to be a beacon in the community.
Country View Apartments & Townhouses — Benton Harbor (269) 926-8068
Located in Berrien County, this updated community extends program services and 198 units of housing to the disabled, low-income families and seniors. Close to lakes and many recreational activities.
Liberty Commons Townhomes & Apartments — Battle Creek (269) 962-6209
Nestled on a wooded hill within 1 mile of downtown Battle Creek, this newly remodeled residence boasts 158 one to four bedroom apartments and townhomes. Amenities include a Community Room, Playground and Recreation areas for residents’ use.
Special Programs
Adopt-A-Family — Southeast Michigan (248) 353-4VOA (4862)
This annual program matches needy families with "sponsors" who adopt them for the Christmas holiday, providing new clothes, toys and a holiday dinner to those who would not be able to celebrate due to their hardships. Last year over 16,000 people were served.
Holiday Meal Program — Lansing (517) 484-4414
Providing meals for the elderly and disabled in the Lansing area for over 30 years, many of the people served are homebound and spend the holiday season alone.
Scholastic Book Grant Program — Southeast and Lansing (248) 209-1033
Brand new Scholastic books are available to children of low-income families. Book give-aways are held throughout the community and often include a special guest-Clifford the Big Red Dog!

Our volunteers are men, women and teens with diverse backgrounds and interests. They have a strong sense of commitment, and a passion for providing service in their communities. Opportunities can be tailored to the specific needs and talents of a volunteer. Our volunteer orientation process includes the completion of an application, consent to a background check, discussion of confidentiality issues and a close look at services provided and opportunities available.

Volunteers of America Michigan has partnered with the Major League Baseball Players Trust. Together we have formed Action Teams. These teams are comprised of Major League baseball players and area high school students who are selected to be Team Captains, work together to inspire youth to get involved in helping at Volunteers of America programs and deliver an important message to their peers from the players — volunteering is cool, fun and personally rewarding! The high school Team Captains work through their local schools to recruit other teens to volunteer in projects developed by Volunteers of America’s local offices.
Vehicle Sales

Cars Helping People repairs donated vehicles and sells them to those in need of transportation at a cost significantly below market value. The people donating vehicles to this program may be able to take a fair market tax-deduction at private sale value for these donations.
Thrift Store Program
Lansing Thrift Store — (517) 272-3126
Over 3,000 items are priced and put out to sell daily. Profits from the store are used to fund social services. Clothing and household goods are also given to shelter residents and others in need through a voucher system. The store is located at: 5411 South Cedar Street, Lansing, Michigan 48911
