From a pending DPS pink slip to the national stage, recording artist to pursue musical dreamswhile helping Volunteers of America Michigan to raise needed funds
With a pending pink slip looming from the embattled Detroit Public Schools, Kay, who has taught English for over 10 years, is undaunted. Standing on the strength of her God-given musical talent, Kay is confident in her new CD, which is described as a beautiful collection of heart-felt songs of love, inspiration, hope and faith, all penned by the artist. The CD is a blend of R&B, jazz, pop, gospel and classical influences, all indicative of Kay's life experiences.
While “Love Stories" is Kay's first solo CD, she is no stranger to the music scene. Over the last 10 years, Kay has performed or recorded with such national artists as Ronnie Laws, Carl Carlton, Kim Waters, Earl Klugh, Run DMC, Billy Preston, Gene Dunlap and Lin Rountree. With the sweet voice of an angel, Kay is already being heralded as one of Detroit's best female singers to hit the national music scene since Anita Baker emerged from the Motor City over 25 years ago. Influenced by other female singers who play piano, such as Alicia Keys, Roberta Flack and Carol King, Kay, writes, composes, sings and plays her own fresh and exciting brand music.
Although passionate about her music and new career, Kay is also adamant about reaching back to help others. Thus, Kay and her record label have partnered to help nonprofit organizations with an exciting and innovative way of facilitating fundraising campaigns. Believing that fundraising through the power of music can be effective, Kay and her company have formed GiftInMusic.com, an organization and concept that will financially benefit participating nonprofit organizations through the sale of Kay's music online. Volunteers of America - Michigan is the first nonprofit organization to partner with the rising star.

Singer, songwriter and pianist, Deborah Kay, is pursuing her life-long musical dreams. The Detroit native performed at the national launch party for her much anticipated, debut CD entitled, “Love Stories.” The CD on Visionmoore Music Group Records will yield Kay's first single, "Everlasting Love." Kay performed two shows on Saturday, July 26, 2008 at Arturo's Jazz Theatre and Restaurant, and a portion of the proceeds went to Volunteers of America Michigan.
